In the early days of existence, when the Primordials and the Architect were at war, Chaos continued weaving its unending tendrils of influence into the darkest, coldest place within the Void. Whilst the first great conflict raged on, the confines of reality shifted, and thus cracks began forming in space-time; this led to Chaos working its violent, bloody influence into the concept of creation.
While not necessarily malevolent in nature, Chaos’ influence can spawn all forms of destruction and corruptive forces when left unchecked. Hell was one such creation of this influence, its birth christened by the agonizing screams of eldritch reality. Hell itself, a parallel yet antithetic partner to the Kingdoms of the Divine, is a timeless dimension, having neither beginning nor end but simply being. A chunk of the higher beings' planes twisted and devolved into a landscape of horror. The eldritch screams that birthed this dimension of brimstone and sulfur reverberated through the void, setting in motion a nexus event that would change all of reality.
After the two great wars, in the early eras of sentient life, civilizations rose, fell, and rose again from the ashes of others in chaotic fashion. Those who had been affected by the world’s chaos, either in positive or negative ways, began to take notice of how there was no discernible reason for such chaos to occur. As such, they began to blame their misfortunes on a nonexistent deity who must be in charge of the madness around them, and thus the Worship of Chaos Incarnate began; over centuries of this growing worship, wars, and crusades waged in their name, a new deity was born. A new, nameless God of Chaos sprung into violent, hellish existence.
Twenty-five years after the appearance of the chaos god, when the first angels came of age to receive their divine assignments, the Divines had largely forgotten any concerns surrounding the “false” god’s influence. All went as it usually does, with most angels receiving their life duties as they were supposed to. All the gods of the pantheon were content with the conclusion of the ceremony, and thus a festival of celebration was proposed to follow—a time for both angels and gods to revel in this holy night of angelic deliverance. However, the night was not yet over. As the final angels received their mark, a silence fell upon the realm. Most had now realized that despite all angels being marked, the tools of deliverance had not yet stopped glowing. This could only mean the disturbing fact that there was yet to be an angel assigned.
The silence maintained for moments uncountable as all tried to figure out what was going on, and the energy of the Realms became ice. From the blurred distance, a large angel, known as an outcast to most, walked into the ceremony. The angel in question kneeled before the tools, flurrying his wings in preparation for their mark. The Chaos God had yet to receive even a single angel, quelling the concerns of the god of wisdom, yet here one remained. The Divine Realms grew colder as all eyes were on the lone angel, now standing up, smoke billowing from the front of their chest. The angels in the surrounding area shuddered as the now-twisted angel strengthened his emblazoned chest. Whispers of Deviroth, Lord of Blood and Fire, began to echo through the room, and almost as a response, a voice boomed from above, below, and all around. A single message, evidently directed to the outcast angel, changed the universe as they knew it forever more.
“Fall, young Angel. And rise again. To take your place as the First Demon. To take your place in my Domain.”
Thus, with the cracking of their bones and a scream evolving to a mighty roar, the birth of the First Demon was recorded in history. Afterwards, with each passing year, more angels would have their assignments to Hell, as the temptation of ‘free will’ became too strong for them to resist. As such, those that chose to take their service in Hell never once left their posts, becoming permanent members of Deviroth’s Unholy Crusaders. After five hundred angels arrived in Hell, there were enough to fully populate with their own, naturally born demons.
